Our Goals
Students enrolled in our school meet their individual educational goals through home-based independent learning programs, classroom-based courses, community-based educational programs, and supplemental learning projects that liberate them to go beyond the walls of a classroom to explore new alternatives
Specific Curriculum Highlights Featuring Standards Based Education-
Language Arts: An emphasis on quality literature, children's classics, a variety of publishers and approaches to literacy, classes in writing and journaling, and the publishing of finished work.
Mathematics: Choices in textbooks, math manipulatives, supplemental problem solving--each student working at his or her own level to aquire expertise in all strands of mathematics.
History/ Social Studies: Students produce multi-cultural events including fairs with booths and food from different countries, story telling, puppet shows of Greek and Central American myths, plays based on myths from other cultures, art projects linked to the study of other cultures and historical periods, biography parties, and book dioramas. Students also work on community service projects, such as saving the rain forests, visiting nursing homes, and working on local environmental issues.
Science: A strong emphasis is placed on both scientific literacy and the use of the scientific method. Environmental studies are conducted in the field in beautiful natural settings.
Visual and Performing Arts: In addition to the classes listed above, students use their educational budget to pay for private music lessons, dance classes and studio art classes. Student performances are scheduled at all sites for families and friends.
Physical Education: Students use their budgets to progress through martial arts' levels, to participate in ski programs, and to take advantage of local sports and fitness opportunities. Learning Centers may also offer site-based physical education classes.
