PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
What kind of program is this?
We are a publicly funded homeschool program offering flexible, parent-led education with the support of a credentialed teacher.
Do I have to buy the curriculum?
No. You'll have access to over 20 free curriculum options—all provided at no cost to you.
How do I choose curriculum?
Your assigned teacher will help you assess your child’s needs and choose the curriculum that works best.
Are materials online or in print?
All curriculum materials are physical (books, workbooks, etc.), with optional online resources available.
SCHOOL STRUCTURE & REQUIREMENTS:
How is the school year structured?
The year is divided into 9 Learning Periods (LPs)—each lasting about 20 school days.
What do I need to turn in during each Learning Period?
By the end of each LP, you’ll need to:

Submit 5 work samples—one for each core subject

Sign and submit attendance through the Parent Portal
When are work samples submitted?
Work samples are collected throughout the month and submitted to your teacher prior to the end of the Learning Period meeting.
Do I meet with a teacher?
Yes. You’ll meet with your assigned teacher in person at the end of each LP to review your child’s progress and submit required documentation.
STUDENT BUDGET:
How much funding does each student receive?
Each student receives a $1,000 budget per semester, prorated based on your enrollment date.
What can I use the student budget for?
You can use it for:

Extracurricular activities

Do I have to spend the full budget?
No. It’s completely up to you—some families use it all, others use very little.

GETTING STARTED:
When will I meet my teacher?
Your first meeting will be scheduled around mid-August.
What happens at the first meeting?
You’ll:

Finalize your curriculum choices

Take home or request materials
-
Learn how to manage your budget and vendor access

Review attendance tracking and work sample submission

Ask questions about enrichment, field trips, and more
ENRICHMENT CLASSES:
Are enrichment classes required?
No—they are completely optional.
When and where are enrichment classes held?
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:30 AM–2:30 PM in Nevada City.
How much do they cost?
$500 per day, per semester—paid through your student budget.
Can we attend just one day per week?
Yes! You can choose to attend one day, both days, or none at all.
When do enrichment classes start?
Enrichment begins in September. If you're interested, your teacher will help you sign up.
ATTENDANCE & WORK: SAMPLES
How do I log attendance?
You’ll use the Parent Portal to check off which subjects were completed each school day.
When do I submit attendance?
At the end of each Learning Period, you'll sign and submit your child’s attendance.
Why are attendance and work samples important?
They are state requirements that ensure we receive public funding (ADA).
⚠️ Missing work samples can lead to program warnings or possible removal.
VACCINATION QUESTIONS:
Does my child need to be vaccinated to enroll?
No. Vaccinations are not required to join our homeschool program.
When are vaccinations required?
Only if your child attends Enrichment Classes. A valid medical exemption is also accepted.
Can my unvaccinated child go on field trips?
Yes! Unvaccinated students can still participate in field trips and other non-classroom-based activities.
Do I still need to complete a form?
Yes. All families must complete the Immunization Acknowledgement Form during registration—regardless of vaccination status.
